Abstract:

The current Internet uses the "best-effort" service model, where the network tries to deliver packets at best it can. The "best-effort" model cannot meet the more sophisticated demand of emerging applications, and mechanisms for creating different levels of services are needed. The "Expected Capacity" framework provides schemes for allocating different band width to different users without explicit setup or reservations. This report describes the mechanisms proposed in this frame work, and presents comprehensive simulation results for different scenarios.
